Use your mouse to explore & find the hidden Mickey in each of the five 360 degree videos ⟲
We were tasked with creating five era related environments from the 20th century, each designed and animated to the Disney Animation style of the time. These designs were open for us to explore, ensuring they aligned with the era that they were interpreting, from the late 1920's black and white rubber hose style animation, through to the early 2000's where traditional animation started to seamlessly blend with 3d.
The challenge was that these designs were going to live in a mobile & web-based interactive 360 environment, where users could explore & move around; left, right, up & down. The objective was for the user to find the 'Hidden Mickey' within each video, allowing them to move through the era's until they reached their reward at the end.
This meant we needed to ensure that the 2d designs accommodated a full 3d perspective. A fair amount of R&D was involved as, as far as we were aware, no one had created what we were looking to achieve before now. Working with Blend Media, professionals in photography-based 360 interactive media, we were able to develop bespoke content for them to incorporate into these interactive 360 environments.
We utilised a combination of techniques to achieve our 3d worlds. In some backgrounds our 2d traditional artists drew the perspective from the angle of a fisheye / 3d lens, others were created in 3d with traditional 2d art projected into the space, while some used a combination of techniques. Each environment involved a lengthy design process & included animation of elements throughout to ensure they were engaging and felt alive.
It was an enjoyable experience bringing traditional 2d Disney design back into a modern medium, allowing today's generation to experience a century worth of animation artistry.
